"I do not want it to look like a jumbled mess," she recalls. "I wanted to clearly define all the different living spaces.

The space Murphy addressed was located in a new extension stretching right across the width of the house - an old extension was pulled down and rebuilt to make room for a second floor. And with three young children in the image of the customer, convenience was the key.

When it came to the style and in the end, difficult or fashiony not on the cards. "The client wanted something simple and warm, not too fashionable," says Murphy. "We wanted to create a look that was modern and felt very present, yet timeless - that is not easily date.

The owner has a love of 1950s style, especially shades of moss green and blue teal - and at one point they even watched using retro oranges burned. However, after reviewing how the family lives, Murphy suggested more than a blank canvas. "I understood that it was more appropriate, she said. "Because they have young children with tons of toys and books that add color and a fine collection of ceramics, I felt that they do not require a lot of extra things to make it look bright.

However, there is still the choice of subtle colors that reflect the tastes of the owner thought - especially the blues and greens of the blind and the curtains and the carpet in the living room.

While the owner likes gray and at the end she chose a color Caesarstone Mushroom worktop to add warmth and elegance to the space. Grey would look cooler, "says Murphy.

The elegant wooden kitchen table gets a lot of use for playdates and craft sessions. "The family spend much of their time here," said Murphy.

The dining room leads directly to the living area, which is defined by the skylight above. The top-shelf in front of the kitchen has been specially designed to show a beloved collection of ceramics (including a large pot by the owner's mother).

This could be a super open space, but as Murphy said, it never feels "empty and echoey '. Instead, the different areas flow together beautifully, while maintaining their separate goals.

The owner wanted cabinets that were elegant and simple without visible handles. "She did not want bits of aluminum. And she really did not want a bright white finish, so we chose a matte white, which took a little time at the source, "says Murphy, who eventually installed a German brand.

A well camouflaged door on the right, next to the stove and refrigerator, leads to the utility area. Best of all, it is a swing door, so no hands necessary when you push through with trash bags.
