Consider making up a bed in your cupboard or pantry. The large closet provides a work plan and storage for food and appliances. Floating shelves are not detrimental to the work area and folding doors hide clutter. The owners of this kitchen did not want the awkward effect of sitting on bar stools so they divided the island in half to form a table-height dining at the counter. However, any table will do - you do not need to build in this function. Adding an existing small table around your home, whether the height of the table or at the same level as your work area, will add a new dimension to your kitchen, and a work area, to boot.
